Asian American Heritage Month at RC3: May 2009

Vision Responding to God’s love for all people and recognizing that all people are image bearers of God, River City sponsors ethnic heritage months so we may know and love people of various cultures, gain a fuller picture of God’s multiethnic Kindgom, and in turn grow in our love and understanding of God.

Our hope is that wherever you are in the journey of multiethnicity, justice, and race in our community and country, you will come away at the end of this month one step further in your understanding. To get you started, we’ve label each event with what we’ve identified three different levels of engagement in this dialogue.

"Open Door" Celebration Join us for a cultural celebration of our diverse Asian-American backgrounds, including Pan-Asian cuisine, artistry, and a fashion show!
When: Sunday, May 3 @ 7 p.m.

Documentary Film Festival Enjoy a roof-top movie night and discussion of clips from two short documentaries featuring two prominent Asian-Americans and their experiences.
When: Sunday, May 17 @ 7 p.m.
Where: Michael & Jennifer Ikoma-Motzko's Home 1845 N. California Ave. #3
Rain location: River City Head Quarters, 2124 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Outside Looking In This is your opportunity to learn more about the diverse experiences of five River City Asian Americans, by observing a candid discussion among the five "fishbowl" participants, and having an opportunity to ask in-depth questions afterward.
When: Wednesday, May 27 @ 7 p.m.
Where: River City HQ, 2124 N. Milwaukee

An Afternoon at Devon St. Enjoy an afternoon excursion to Chicago's Devon Street to experience South Asian food and culture!
When: Sunday, May 31 @ 1 p.m.
Where: Meet immediately after worship service, 1665 N. Mozart
