Asian-American Heritage Month at RC3: May 2010

Vision Responding to God’s love for all people and recognizing that all people are image bearers of God, River City sponsors ethnic heritage months so we may know and love people of various cultures, gain a fuller picture of God’s multiethnic Kindgom, and in turn grow in our love and understanding of God.

Our hope is that wherever you are in the journey of multiethnicity, justice, and race in our community and country, you will come away at the end of this month one step further in your understanding. To get you started, we’ve label each event with what we’ve identified three different levels of engagement in this dialogue.

In 2010, the focus of Asian-American Heritage Month is on our three pillars of worship, reconciliation, and neighborhood development.

Events
Progressive Dinner Join us for a pan-Asian culinary adventure - visit multiple homes within walking distance of our church, experiencing hospitality and community in a smaller group setting. Risk Level I.

Worship Night Join us as we worship God through song and prayer! Come with an open and expectant heart, and meet God through the "best of Korean-American praise teams" songs (by Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, Matt Redman, etc.) Risk Level II.

Field Trip Get a glimpse into how organizations are living out neighborhood development in South and Southeast Asian communities in Chicago's north side. You will visit either the South Asian Friendship Center or Care for Real, then join together for a meal to share what you learned. Risk Level I.

Blacks and Asians in the Media Join us for an exploration of how society and media shapes our worldviews and interactions with one another. We will consider the history of culture and media in the United States, specifically in relation to Black/African American and Asian American relations, and discuss how culture and media continue to impact us now and as we look toward the future together. Risk Level III.
