Latin American Heritage Month - Sept 16 - Oct 16, 2009

Vision Responding to God’s love for all people and recognizing that all people are image bearers of God, River City sponsors ethnic heritage months so we may know and love people of various cultures, gain a fuller picture of God’s multi-ethnic kingdom, and in turn grow in our love and understanding of God. Our hope is that wherever you are in the journey of multi-ethnicity, justice, and race in our community and country, you will come away at the end of this month one step further along in your understanding.

Latin American Heritage Month is part of an ongoing evolving rotation of ethnic heritage months celebrated at River City.

Events
Fiesta Latinoamericana Participate in a Fiesta Latina: a great time for fellowship, opportunity to eat regional foods from several Latin American countries including: Puerto Rico, Mexico, Columbia, Peru, Cuba, Guatemala, and many others. The evening will conclude with festive dancing. Our hope is that you will be immersed in some of the ways Latinos celebrate, live, and eat. We will also post pictures from South America as well as perform some Latin American poetry and songs.

A History of Humboldt Park Juanita Irizarry will lead us through a time of story telling and important historical aspects of key people, places, and conversations in the life of the Humboldt Park neighborhood, with a special emphasis on the role of the Puerto Rican presence in the area.

Latino American Heritage Open Discussion Be an observer and listener to an "insider conversation/discussion" among Latin Americans as they engage in topics that reflect their identity as Latinos living in the United States and the implications this fact has on their lives in Chicago.
